MEC Donates truck to SVCC

Mecklenburg County resident receives the Electric Cooperatives’ Good Samaritan Award

C. Franklin Dover, Jr., a retired educational administrator and member of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC), has earned the 2019 Good Samaritan Award presented by the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC).

Given to an individual whose body of good work has been so selfless and life-changing to others that it is held up as a “gold standard” of community service, the award was presented to Dover on December 6 in a surprise ceremony held during the Clarksville Lake Country Chamber of Commerce’s Christmas Social in Clarksville, Va.

Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) and EMPOWER Broadband, in conjunction with Halifax County, are preparing an application to the Department of Housing and Community Development (DHCD) for Virginia Telecommunication Initiative (VATI) Grant Funding to extend high-speed broadband to two areas: from Meadville to the County line along Highway 57 and also along Alphonse Dairy Road. Approximately, 217 premises will be served with fiber-optic cable.


MEC Line Workers Receive Distinction of International Competition

Following yet another great showing at the regional Gaff-N-Go Rodeo held earlier this year, four line workers from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) earned, once again, the opportunity to compete in the Annual International Lineman’s Rodeo & Expo in Overland Park, Kansas. This event attracts the best line technicians, ground technicians, and apprentices from across the United States and around the world, as they display their skills before thousands of spectators.

MEC Selects Vice President of Finance and Accounting

Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) is pleased to announce the promotion of Carol Ann Jones to the position of vice president of finance and accounting. She will be responsible for all financial and accounting processes at the Cooperative and managing the Finance and Accounting Department to provide reliable and timely financial reporting and statistical information. Her responsibilities also include ensuring the continuing strong fiscal health of the Cooperative.

Lee Elected Vice Chairman of NCSC Board of Directors

John C. Lee, Jr., president and CEO of Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC), has been elected to serve as Vice President of the board of directors of the National Cooperative Services Corporation (NCSC). NCSC’s held their annual meeting on June 12, 2018, in Indianapolis, Indiana, and Lee was elected by his fellow directors to serve as a board officer in the position of Vice President in the board’s organizational meeting that followed the finance cooperative’s annual meeting. Lee previously served as a board officer in the position of Secretary Treasurer.
