Mecklenburg Electric Earns Prestigious Service Excellence Status

Chase City — Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC) recently received national recognition from Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives for earning the status as a Four Star Service Excellence Cooperative. MEC is one of only 17 electric cooperatives among 740 across the nation to have earned this prestigious certification by completing a series of four employee engagement courses providing more than 24 hours of intensive training in Touchstone Energy’s Service Excellence Program.

“The Touchstone Energy Cooperatives’ network represents electric cooperatives with the highest of standards - demonstrated through integrity, accountability, innovation, and community. We are elated to be one of the first to have acquired this notable status,” remarks MEC President and CEO John C. Lee, Jr.    “This accomplishment exhibits Mecklenburg Electric’s unconditional commitment to customer service.”

Lee continues, “Our dedicated employees recognize that those we serve are our MEMBERS and accordingly, are so much more than customers - they are our friends, family, neighbors, and the fabric of each community we serve, and lastly they are our owners. These training sessions offer a continuing reminder that our Cooperative was created by community leaders to serve our rural areas when other utilities would not. With that in mind, we continue to build and maintain a culture in MEC that reflects how grateful we are for the privilege to serve those we call Members.”

Touchstone Energy has recognized MEC’s desire and dedication to effectively serve its membership in portions of nine Virginia counties, and five North Carolina counties, and to become one of the best cooperatives and electric utilities in the industry. The Touchstone Energy Service Excellence Program includes multiple on-site workshop sessions that empower employees to become ambassadors of MEC and electric cooperatives in general. During these workshops, Cooperative employees master advanced communication skills, a “can-do” attitude, and learn how to better assist members by proactively anticipating their needs.

Touchstone Energy® Cooperatives is a national network of electric cooperatives across 47 states that provides resources and leverages partnerships to help member cooperatives and their employees better engage and serve their members. By working together, Touchstone Energy cooperatives stand as a source of power and information to their 32 million member-owners every day.
