Jones Elected to Three-State Cooperative Board



CHASE CITY - Bob Jones, a member on the board of directors for Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative (MEC), has been elected to serve as secretary/treasurer on the Virginia, Maryland & Delaware Association of Electric Cooperatives (VMDAEC) board of directors. The action took place at their July 24 annual meeting to elect officers for 2017-2018.


Jones is an insurance producer with Watkins Insurance Agency in South Hill and has served on the MEC board since 1986. He has represented MEC on the VMDAEC board for five years and has served as treasurer on that board since 2015.


Serving as chairman of the VMDAEC board is James E. Huffman, a retired educator and farmer from Fincastle, Virginia, who represents Craig-Botetourt Electric Cooperative. Herbert Patrick, a Petersburg, Virginia businessman, serves on the board of Prince George Electric Cooperative and was elected to serve as the board’s vice chairman.

“In addition to serving on the board of their local electric cooperative, each of these officers also serves on one or more of the Association’s 10 committees,” says Richard G. Johnstone, CEO of VMDAEC. “We truly depend upon their commitment to provide input on how to expand and improve the services we provide our member cooperatives.”

Lee, Jr., comments, “Bob’s election to an officer position at our regional trade association continues MEC’s proud tradition of strong leadership roles in state, regional and national cooperative organizations,” adding, “Bob is a valuable member of the MEC board of directors, and I am confident he’ll carry on MEC’s legacy by doing an exceptional job as the VMDAEC board secretary/treasurer…and capably representing our cooperative.”


Founded in 1944, VMDAEC is the trade association for Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative and 14 other member-owned, not-for-profit electric distribution cooperatives that serve Delaware, Maryland and Virginia.
