Helen Glass Retires from Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative

GRETNA – Helen Glass, district services representative for   Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative’s Gretna District, has retired.   At a monthly board of directors meeting at the Headquarters   office in Chase City,  Chairman David Jones presented Mrs.   Glass with a Resolution of Appreciation and recognized her in   the presence of the 11-member board and Mecklenburg   Electric  Cooperative (MEC) senior staff.

Mrs. Glass was hired in September 2007 on a part-time basis   to   assist members coming into the office and calling on the   phone.   (At the Cooperative, those who receive electric   service are referred to as “members” rather than “customers”   because they are part-owners of the business.) With 14 years   of previous utility experience at Peoples Mutual Telephone   Company, she performed her duties at the Cooperative very   efficiently and effectively; and with an increasing work load, Mrs. Glass soon fulfilled a full-time position. In addition to receiving payments from members, she insured the accuracy of entered data into the Cooperative’s Customer Information System, handled inquiries, provided information on installations, removals, billing, and fees, completed equipment records, and responded to outage calls to the reporting system.

“We greatly appreciate Helen’s dedication to her duties and her commitment to our members,” states John C. Lee, Jr., MEC president & CEO.  “She is well organized and capable; foremost she exudes kindness and compassion in every task and wherever she goes. Here at MEC she was always pleasant when working with our members as well as with her co-workers; it was evident that high quality customer service was of extreme importance to her. She was a dedicated employee, and we miss seeing her smiling face; but we wish her and her husband, John, the very best in this next chapter of their lives.”

Mecklenburg Electric Cooperative is the not-for-profit member-owned energy provider to over 31,000 meters located in portions of the Virginia counties of Brunswick, Charlotte, Greensville, Halifax, Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, Pittsylvania, Southampton and Sussex counties and the North Carolina counties of Granville, Person, Northampton, Vance and Warren. It is a Touchstone Energy Cooperative, headquartered in Chase City with district offices in Gretna, Emporia, and Chase City.
